Upon arrival at Keflavik Intn Airport, your private chauffeur will await you and take you to your hotel in Reykjavik. After settling in, spend some time exploring the city centre, perhaps with a stroll along the small design boutiques on the main street, Laugavegur, which also has several cosy cafes and coffee houses if you need a sweet treat or a caffeine boost. Just make sure to save plenty of room in your stomach for dinner tonight, as you will enjoy some of the best cuisine Iceland has to offer with the tasting menu at the popular Grill Market Restaurant. Spend the next four nights in Reykjavik.
Enjoy a relaxing morning. Then you’ll be picked up at noon for a special culinary tour with a historical twist, starting with an introduction to the settlement of Reykjavik and its surroundings. On the way, your chef-guide will also take you to visit small shops that specialize in local cheeses, fresh fish, Icelandic meats and spirits. All these shops are bound to make you hungry, so thankfully the tour ends in the suburb of Kópavogur at the chef’s home, where you will enjoy a gourmet meal of Icelandic delicacies. The rest of this evening is free. We recommend checking out Harpa, the new music and conference hall, with its unique architecture and great harbour view. Another interesting spot to visit is the Einar Jónsson sculpture garden, where art deco statues are illuminated until late evening. Or take a walk down the Skólavörðustígur “art and design street” from the Hallgrímskirkja church.
This morning you can sleep in or visit one of Reykjavik´s thermal pools before being picked up at noon for your private super-jeep tour of the Golden Circle, a popular tourist route that contains some of the country’s most famous attractions. The first stop is Þingvellir National Park, the site of Iceland’s first parliament and a place where you can walk in a rift valley between continents. Next is the Haukadalur hot springs area, home the original geyser “Geysir”, and the beautiful Gullfoss waterfall. Before heading back to Reykjavík, you will visit the charming fishing village of Stokkseyri and enjoy a 3-course lobster feast at the cosy Fjöruborðið Restaurant. Dining on Iceland’s famous seafood with wonderful ocean views is a great ending to this nature-themed day.
Before heading to the airport, you will have some time to experience Iceland’s famous Blue Lagoon, a geothermal spa renowned for its mineral-rich waters surrounded by a moon-like lava field. Here you can soak in the lagoon with a silica mud mask or enjoy the saunas before your final treat—a relaxing half-hour massage while floating on a pad in the warm water. After this wonderful last memory of Iceland, you will have a private transfer to Keflavik Airport for your departure flight. Note: If your flight is in the morning, we can change your travel itinerary accordingly. We are also happy to customize your holiday with additional day tours or extra nights in Reykjavik. Please contact us for details. Due to scheduled renovations to the facilities, the Blue Lagoon will be closed from 5 through 21 January 2016 inclusive.
