Accommodation: Accommodation at The Himalayan are in the main castle which houses eight chambers and cottages spread around the 2 acre estate, each strategically placed for maximum views. The chambers in the main castle and yes it apt to be called chambers; the winding stairways leading to corridors to open into the rooms and suites appear straight out of the Victorian era. The cottages meanwhile are more in tune with the concept of holiday homes in t he hills.
The stone façades of all the buildings set around a swimming pool, parts of the castle with the backdrop of the mountains reflecting in the pool, the paths and edges strewn with daffodils and irises, compose into a mesmerizing image that transports you and your vision of Manali ( if there was one ) will change forever.
Service & Amenities: The Chambers in the castle are categorized as Classic, Grand, Premier and Family rooms. The rooms are designed to include en-suite bathrooms with bath-tubs and shower cubicles while the living spaces in the rooms have a period feel with warm muted colors, heavy drapes, rugs and four poster beds. The Cottages on the other hand are bright with a modern look and feel.
Guest areas include a lounge, conservatory that claims the sun through the day, a restaurant and a happening bar and events area, suggestively called the Dungeon. There is a beautiful conference/ board room, extremely atmospheric perfect for corporate conferences and academic sessions.
MECH Feature: It took Nishat and Bobby over ten years to build The Himalayan and bring the concept alive. That it is a labor of love is evident when Nishat takes you around and explains the concept and construction and the fine architectural details of constructing a Castle. Trained in hospitality one can see the detailing and thought that Nishat has brought into the hotel in its amenities, features and also cuisine.
The ‘MECH’ review: Manali has always been fascinating. Its unique culture that combines the edgy lifestyle of landowners, maverick travelers and settlers and proximity to the high mountains infuses a romance that is timeless. There is art, craft, culture, adventure, spirituality and freedom to explore in thes e hills. The Himalayan suddenly comes on the horizon like a breath of fresh air, quite unlike any of the hotels that you see here. A façade that exudes a sense of quiet grace and repose, envelopes you in a time-warp and transfers you to a world of medieval castles, intrigue and cozy luxury. While all around are beautiful and snow-caped peaks.
