The Retreat’s motto of sustainable tourism is one of its qualities that place Jim’s Jungle Retreat at the top of the luxury lodges in Corbett. They do everything rig ht to build on their eco-sensitive quotient – buying local products, employing locals as guid es and maintaining an organic farm, managing waste to harvesting water. Their ‘Mah avan’ project is a comprehensive program for conservation and restoration to allow the natural eco-system of the terai forests around Corbett to thrive and prosper.
Corbett has had a spell of bad press lately; still the park enjoys the unde niable distinction of being India's first National Park, Jim Corbett’s home and the habitat of ne arly half of the bird species found in India Jim’s Jungle Retreat that celebrates the shiikari turned fierce conservationist, is set close to the southern forests of Corbett- the Jirn a zone and spreads over 15 acres close to a seasonal river that comes alive in the monsoons . The land features large open spaces, water bodies and a prolific growth of native shrubs an d trees that are an open invitation to myraid birds, voracious jackals, other wildlife like de er and wild boars, and on occasion, stray tuskers too. All this supports layers of fecund plant life and arthropod species that inhabit the retreat.
Philosophy:
The Lodge was founded with the idea of encouraging local e mployment, sustain conservation ideas and help city dwellers fall in love with the forests.
Jim’s commitment to ‘Green’ and sustainable tourism is reflected in the first interaction that a guest has with the lodge. On arrival, every guest is introduced to the Corbett jungle, the balance it creates and the philosophy that the retreat lives by – ‘Seek the tiger, find the jungle’.
